During this event which centered in accessibility, Maya organized a research workshop titled “Designing a Social Robot for Mental Health Support”.

In this workshop, the participants learned about basic interaction design methods such as brainstorming, bodystorming, storyboarding, paper prototyping, and Wizard-of-Oz prototyping. These methods were practiced in the design of a social robot for mental health support.

The participants identified a need in mental health related with journaling, and designed three different versions of a journaling robot using the aforementioned techniques and tools developed in the Human-Centered Robotics lab.

Professor Maya Cakmak and postdoctoral researcher Maru Cabrera will attend RoboCup 2025 in Sydney, Australia after winning the first ever RoboCup Visiting Fellows award. They will observe the Home and Logistics leagues, consult with experienced teams and league officials, and attend meetings with RoboCup Federation Trustees.

This winter the EMAR project team was awarded a NSF funded Quori robot. This shoulder height robot with a projected face and actuated torso and arms affords social interaction and expressions.
